Problem: Internal corrosion of the pipelines has lead to severe degradation of the substrate including heavy pitting. In some areas, the loss of wall thickness is reaching a stage where the structural integrity of the pipeline would be compromised. Action is needed to repair the existing damage and prevent further corrosion.

Application Situation

Sewage water pipelines at a waste water treatment facility.

Application Method

The application was carried out using a modified version of Belzona System Leaflets VPF-01 and VPF-02. After surface preparation by grit blasting to remove corroded material, free to surface of contaminants, and provide a surface profile, the pitted areas were repaired with Belzona 1111 and Belzona 4111. Finally, a 2 coat system of Belzona 5811 was used to protect from further corrosion.

Belzona Facts

Belzona was chosen as the materials are VOC free and easy to apply in-situ. Belzona 4111 was used to rebuild some areas with shallow pitting as it allowed for a faster application and reduced cost to the customer.
