Problem: A metal part in the shot blaster caught the belt during operation and severely ripped the belt.

Application Situation

Rubber belt tumbler inside a shot blast machine.

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with a modified Belzona Know How System Leaflet SHM-1. Guard plates were removed allowing for partial access to the complete area to be repaired. All loose material was cut away and the area prepared with a roughening brush. Plastic was slipped underneath the belt to prevent any attachment to the metal drive rollers. Belzona 2911 was applied. Then Belzona 2211 was applied in two layers with Belzona 9341 over the seam areas. The entire job was completed in three sections due to accessibilty and covered with plastic so the belt could be moved to complete the application. A heat lamp was mounted to maintain optimum curing temperature.

Belzona Facts

A replacement belt costs over $4000 and takes 3 days to be replaced. The company was in the middle of a major production order and did not have the ability to shut down for that length of time. This repair cost them $500 and 24 hours of down time making this repair a big success.
