Problem: A liquor regenerating heat exchanger ran dry, with the steam left on. This warped the upper and lower heads and shell flanges so badly that they wouldn’t seat.

The application saved the customer over $150,000, in 1980! The alternative was to perform in place machining of the 15 foot diameter flange faces and mating surfaces. With mating surfaces restored the heat exchanger has operated for decades.
