Problem: A liquor regenerating heat exchanger ran dry, with the steam left on. This warped the upper and lower heads and shell flanges so badly that they wouldn’t seat.
- Application of Belzona® 1111 in progress.
- Upper head being hoisted into place to re-form the distorted flange.
- After upper head was lowered excess material was removed prior to cure.
- Flange face rebuilt.
Distorted flanges on heat exchanger.
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona® Know-How System Leaflet GSS-8.
The application saved the customer over $150,000, in 1980! The alternative was to perform in place machining of the 15 foot diameter flange faces and mating surfaces. With mating surfaces restored the heat exchanger has operated for decades.
