KHIA ID: 5464

Belzona 1812 (Ceramic Carbide FP)

Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal)

Problem: The elbow wears where at one point it was criss-crossed with an AR weld. Unfortunately, the fuel feed would hang up on the AR weld pattern, causing the auger to work much harder.
Photograph Descriptions
  1. The burn chamber exterior and access door.
  2. The interior of the elbow from above. The Belzona product from the original application 10 years ago is still visible.
  3. Completed application.
Application Situation
Sawmill burns hog fuel to fire boilers in the energy plant. The fuel is fed via an open end auger running in a tube with an elbow at the end directing the fuel upwards into the burn chamber.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-8. The surface was grit blasted; Belzona 1812 was applied by applicator and it was then overcoated with Belzona 1321 for smoothness.
Belzona Facts
This elbow is one of three originally surfaced in 2004 with Belzona 1812, which was found to not only protect the elbow, but significantly reduce auger torque as well. 10 years later this elbow needed a new coating and Belzona was asked to renew the application.
