Problem: Existing coating had failed leading to corrosion of the vessel internals and severe loss of metal on the adjacent flanges. This 24 inch flange was for the Perspex sight port.

Application Situation

Deck water seal of inert gas generator system on an FPSO. Seal handles sea water at ambient temperatures.

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-13. An aluminium former was fabricated. This was accurately positioned using shims to allow accurate reconstruction of the flange face with Belzona 1111 to be completed.

Belzona Facts

Client was unable to use hot work and had restricted time. Application was carried out over a weekend and the entire solution, from first notification, including former fabrication, was completed in less than a week. A number of other flanges were reformed using the Belzona re-usable formers. The vessel was returned to service with minimum disruption to the production cycle.
