Customer Location: Jasper, AL

Problem: This refinery has 18 year old fiberglass holding tanks that have been in use. A hairline crack formed underneath the flange and a fluid had begun to weep out causing a loss.
Before: Yellow Dots mark the crack, we cleaned the area witH Acetone
During: We used a tough flapper disk to obtain an appropriate profile on the fiberglass tank.
After: We applied 1 coat of Belzona 1111 with Reinforcement Cloth Engrained.
Application Situation
Our client needed a quick fix to solve this hairline crack because it put them down to only being able to pull from 1 out of 2 tanks at the refinery. Rather than waiting on contractors or a drawn out timeline, they called us.
Application Method
First, we cleaned the fiberglass and fluid up using Acetone after the fluid level was dropped below the crack. We proceeded to use a flapper disk attached to a grinder to get a good profile on the fiberglass (hairy fibers). We proceeded to tape the area using duct tape while simultaneously measuring the amount of reinforcement cloth needed. Once prepared, we engrained 9341 on the board with 1111, first painted a layer of 1111 on the tank, and then placing the strips of cloth into the 1111, finishing by encapsulating a final layer of 1111.
