Application Situation
The cooling tower pans at this data center were beginning to develop corrosion and had already began leaking in a few small areas.
Application Method
The application area was prepped using MBX Bristleblasters to achieve a 3-3.5 mil profile. Belzona 1111 was used to address the leaks, and two coats of Belzona 5831 were applied using Belzona 9341 Reinforcement Sheet over the seams for added strength.
Belzona Facts
Belzona 5831 was chosen for its ability to protect, but mostly for its ability to cure in wet areas, or even be applied underwater. This data center needed to be able to bring the unit back online at anytime during the application if another unit failed. By using Belzona 5831, should that situation occur, the team could evacuate from the unit and the unit could go online without harming the material and losing progress. It also allowed the unit to be turned on shortly after the application was completed without having to wait an extended amount of time for it to cure. These air handlers were operated with only water and no chemicals, so curing for chemical resistance was not a concern.
