Industry: Local Authorities & Municipalities (LAMU)
Application: FPA-Floor Problem Areas (FPA)
Substrate: Concrete
Customer Location: France

Products: Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer), Belzona 2911 (Elastomer QD Conditioner)
Problem: At a municipal swimming pool, an expansion joint around one of the pool basins was found detached from its support. Chlorinated water had started to attack the concrete slab, causing leaks through the concrete and bringing dampness to the equipment room in the basement. In addition, there was a greasy deposit from the old silicone expansion joints. This resulted in slipperiness which posed a serious risk of pool users falling over.
Measurement of the defective expansion joint in order to calculate the required quantity of product.
The application area was marked with tape to delimit the application area. A backer rod was inserted into the joint prior to the application of Belzona 2211.
Belzona 2211 filled the expansion joint, safeguarding the concrete structure underneath from further damage.
Application Situation
The application took place while the pool was closed, allowing the area to be kept free of water. A water inlet box near the the application area was removed to allow the access to the expansion joint. Belzona 2211 was identified to be the most suitable solution in this case.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet FPA-6.
The old silicone expansion joint was removed and a grinder was used to prepare the surface for the application of Belzona. The area of defective joint was measured to calculate the product required to complete the application. Masking tape was utilised to properly mark and delineate the application area and to maintain a clean finish.
A thin layer of Belzona 2911 (Elastomer QD Conditioner) was applied to the prepared surface and allowed to dry before a backer rod was inserted into the joint. Humidity level was also checked using a hygrometer to ensure suitable atmospheric conditions for the application.
Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer) was then thoroughly mixed and applied to the joint to form a new expansion joint.
