Problem: There were cavitation and Coating Failure issues on the underside of a Transducer of an Exploration Vessel, and they needed a quick turn-around to get back out to sea.
Failure or the previous coating due to cavitation and adhesion issues.
Support for padding used to protect the transducer and transmitters.
Application Situation
There were some coating and cavitation issues on the underside of a Transducer that is used to "map" the Ocean Floor and provide geological data. Belzona 1161, 1111, and 1121 to fill in areas where there was damage and shallow pitting or cavitation. Belzona was the best option under the circumstances of where the damage was, and the expense of damaging the transducer using other means. Belzona saved the client money and time to get back out to sea.
Application Method
The repair was carried out in accordance with the Belzona SOS-1, ensuring adherence to the highest industry standards. The process included:
Surface Preparation: The damaged areas were cleaned and prepared by sanding and lite grinding to ensure maximum adhesion of the Belzona materials. This included removing any loose debris, contaminants, and preparing the surface for the composite.
Application of Belzona 1111 and 1161: The Belzona composite products were applied to the damaged areas. Its excellent bonding properties allowed it to adhere firmly to the prepared surface, effectively filling and covering the damaged surfaces
Application of Belzona 1121: Once the Belzona 1161 cured, Belzona 1121 was applied to provide an additional layer of protection, ensuring the repaired areas would withstand future exposure to water and corrosion.
Belzona Facts
Belzona was used as a reliable solution, because of time constraints, and it provided a viable means to fill in the damage, even with a semi-wet environment around and offered the client a long-term solution. If the piece of equipment that Belzona was used on had any damage, or more failure, it could have cost $Millions in damage to the equipment.
