Problem: The balconies were repaired 30 years ago. Due to age, carbonation of concrete, exposure to rain/snow and water ingressing into cracks, at the edge of balconies the pieces started to fall down. This was a safety hazard for people walking beneath.

Application Situation

Repair of a 2nd floor apartment balcony in the center of Zagreb.

Application Method

Application was carried out according to FPA-1. Loose parts of the concrete were removed before the surface was cleaned and conditioned. Exposed rebar was thoroughly cleaned and abraded with an MBX Bristle Blaster. The balconies were then resurfaced with Belzona 4111. Cracks were deepened to at least 6 mm, cleaned and filled with Belzona 4111.

Belzona Facts

Alternative solutions were more complex (scaffolding etc.) and were by far more expensive. This was only the first part of the balcony (2 meters length) and the customer was very satisfied, so we got another 25 meters, with more coming. An advantage for the customer is the possibility of doing the repair in phases - less disturbance for the tennants and no big costs at one time.
