Problem: The pipe is a very important part of oil & gas operations for this customer. The application area was difficult to access. External corrosion created thinning of the wall thickness on the pipe causing a solution to be found to protect this pipe.
Application Situation
An 8in diameter liquid hydrocarbon line of a major Oil & Gas Owner on an offshore platform in the Gulf of Mexico experienced external corrosion. UTS was performed to determine the wall thickness of the pipe. The MAWP of the line is 5000psi. The application area was reached via Rope Access. SuperWrap II was chosen as a preventative measure to protect the pipe. Replacement costs are not feasible at this time and a shut in would require a major loss in cash flow.Application Method
1. Power tool prep via MBX Bristle Blaster to bare metal (SSPC-SP11). Wipe the surface clean with Belzona 9111 and let dry.2. Belzona 1161 was applied to the thin wall areas.
3. Belzona SuperWrap II system was applied per the design at 3 wraps / 18in axial extent. Belzona 9382 was used to consolidate and allow to cure.
