Problem: The 600-metre long conveyor belt transports the iron ore to the blast furnace. The belt costs more than 200.000 euros. It takes at least 2 days to replace it. The loss of production costs about 100.000 euros per hour !!!!. After about 8 years of operation, the belt was already so badly worn in some places that the steel belts had become visible.

Application Situation

The client tested all the rapid repair systems available on the market. Belzona 2111 and Belzona 2311 performed very well. All other systems had either too little adhesion or less wear resistance. The production downtime for repairs in the summertime was only 8 to 10 hours. We also had repairs in wintertime at minus 15°C. On these occasions, we had to build housing and heat the repair area with propane gas burners to get heat and also enough humidity to dry the primer 2911.
