Problem: The metal expansion joint that was covered with insulation material deteriorated and have developed major cracks and under insulation corrosion leading to steam leaks in a few spots. As results, the plant had to shut down to stop the leak until replacement joints will be available with very limited ability to shut down in the middle of summer. A fast and effective solution was needed in order to repair the expansion joint as soon as possible.

Application Situation

The gas-fired power plant uses pipes to release extra steam at high temperature and low pressure as an outcome from its operation. There is an expansion joint located on the lower part of the pipe, join a vessel and the pipe.

Application Method

The application was similar to VPF-05 system leaflet, but slight variations using Belzona 1000 series material.

Belzona Facts

The customer main goal was to seal and stop the leak and run the operation as soon as possible due to the high-income losses during the shutdown. The repair was done on the same day and the system was ready for operation about 24 hours later.
