Bund cover plates receive Belzona acid protection

Problem: New bund covers and supporting steelwork was commissioned for a large manufacturing plant. There were to be pumps mounted to the steel covers. The new steelwork had to be protected by a coating which could cope with splashes of Caustic and Nitric acid
Blasted to SA 2.5 and 75 microns minimum
Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5) applied to supporting beams
Cover plates prepared as per Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5) IFU
All steel work protection completed.
Application Situation
The application was carried out in-house at our application facility in Hawarden, Wales. The steel work and application was carried out by our own staff with our own equipment. This enabled us to completely control the preparation and application and offer the best performance from the Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5) coating
Application Method
Grit blasting carried out in our internal Blast-booth to SA2.5 and 75 microns (minimum)
All steelwork cleaned and degreased
2 coats of Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5) were applied as per IFU at 250 microns
Belzona Facts
The client has a pump which is located on top of the bund cover. The pump tends to leak from time to time which holds waste solutions which has a 10% nitric acidic rating and minimal caustic 1-2%. Over a period of years the metal works normal standard enamel paint has eroded and some holes have formed under the pump.
The Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5) coating was the only coating available to the client that would cater for chemicals present.
The client could not source another current supplier to provide a protective coating to the specifications of Belzona 4351 (Magma CR5)
