Problem: The underground mines cable outer sheets had become damaged due to very rough mining surface and dusty conditions. These mines are situated 200 to 500 metres deep, and damage like this can cause serious issue for water ingression.

Application Situation
The alternative solution is to cut the portion of the cable and re join them together using a cable kit; however, by doing this, it does not give proper shape to the cable and takes 24 hours for the repair to cure. The Belzona solution offered a faster and more durable repair. However, the key selling point for the client was that the repair maintained the shape of the existing cable. They also required a cold repair that could offer a long-term solution and be applied in situ. No competitor is able to offer all of these benefits, and, most importantly, the quick application turnaround. Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer) along with Belzona 2921 (Elastomer GP Conditioner) was used for the application.
Application Method
First the loose rubber was removed, and the application area roughened before applying Belzona 2921 (Elastomer GP Conditioner). The conditioner required to become touch dry and then Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer) could be applied to the damaged areas. One repair takes approximately 2-3 hours.

This client was satisfied with the application as keeping these cables in service is critical to the running of the mine. This solution was won through product demonstrations and face-to-face meetings.
