Problem: The damaged existing thermal insulation needed to be replaced, exposing the hot surface of the pipe and endangering the safety of all personnel working or walking near the pipe at offshore platform.

Surface preparation with hand tools on bare metal after aluminium cladding removal

Applying 3 coats of Belzona 5871 by brush

Leave the applied coating to expand by foaming and cure

Application completed and pipe is safety to touch

Application Situation

Simple brush application by hand so no specialist tools required. Application was done in-situ and no shutdown required.

Application Method

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet VPF-2. Three coats of Belzona 5871 was applied to reduce the surface temperature of the pipe to be a level safe for contact.
