Problem: The client was facing deterioration on their exterior piping to the cooling tower from years of exposure to the elements without a coating.

Application Situation

We used Belzona 5831 in this application for a couple different reasons. First, we couldn’t do proper surface prep due to down time and shutting down the cooling tower to grit blast so we had to pressure wash only. Second, there was a fine mist of rain during the application process from a passing through tropical storm. Cost savings for this project was significantly higher due to no down time.

Application Method

We used a normal pressure washer to surface prep the pipe followed by a wire wheel to remove heavier rust in some areas. Next we cleaned the pipe using 100% MEK. Then we applied the Belzona 5831 using half inch nap rollers to ensure the coating was applied throughly and absorbed in the deeper pitted areas.

We were able to save this customer several days in downtime due to being able to apply the Belzona 5831 in a wet environment. In return saving the customer millions of dollars per day.
