Encapsulation of Viking PIpe Clamps on 800mm Dia. Waste Water Pipe

Problem: Customer has an 800mm Dia. waste pipe which crossed a small river. Viking Clamps had been fitted to seal a number of through hole defects on the Waste Water Pipe.

Application Situation

The clamps were leaking which imposed environmental issues, but customer was reluctant to remove and replace the clamps due to:
1) The corrosion on the underside of the pipe.
2) The environmental issues and the consequences of polluting the river.

It was agreed that total encapsulation of the clamps using Belzona materials was the solution to the problem.

Application Method

Steel shuttering was fabricated and fixed into place around the Viking Clamps.
The Belzona 4111 was mixed as a pourable slurry and poured into the steel shuttering until
The level was 50mm above the top of the clamps.

Belzona Facts

The Belzona repair solution/method was chosen by the customer due:

1) The solution offered a very cost effective solution whilst also offering longer
life expectancy and minimum of downtime.
2) Fast turnaround offering faster return to service.
3) Cost was significantly less that total replacement.
4) Minimum impact and risk to the environment
The alternative was to completely replace pipe which would have been a large civil engineering job at a significantly much higher cost to the customer
