External repair to water tank
Industry: Food & Drink (FOOD)
Application: TCC-Tanks and Chemical Containment Areas (TCC)
Substrate: Other
Customer Location: Newark
Application Date: May 2025
Products: Belzona 1212
Problem: A constant leak meant that production water was escaping from a water tank in a large food processing plant. The lining is due to be replaced, but the engineering team needed to stem the leak that was costing them dearly in water top ups

Application Situation
It would have been almost impossible to repair this live leak using anything other than Belzona. The normal option would be to weld a patch to it, but the substrate and the internal liner meant that hot works were not possible
Application Method
80 grade emery was used to "key" the area. This is a tried and tested method used at many of the Waste Water sites and the same substrates throughout the UK
The area was cleaned and degreased
A mild steel patch was cut to size from 3mm sheet and was prepared using an angle grinder and cutting disc
The Belzona 1212 was mixed according to the IFU and both the target area and patch were "wetted" out
The plate had the Belzona 1212 applied to it and then was pressed against the tank wall
A wooden sprag was employed to hold the plate in place until full cure
The repair was visited 2 months later and was holding perfectly well with no signs of leakage
Belzona Facts
Less than 1 x 450g unit of Belzona 1212 was used in this repair, a fraction of the cost of any other method that would have provided a solution.
