Problem: The original build grand staircase made from pre-1920 cast-iron had severe rust and multiple failures. It was a tremendous eyesore and in some areas impassible.

Application Situation
Pre 1920 cast-iron grand staircase.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona Know-How System Leaflet FPA-5. Since the application was taking place on a very busy street with heavy foot traffic, a containment area was built to contain the dust from blasting. The substrate was blasted off to bare metal. Once the media blasting was completed, 1/2" iron rods were installed to repair the step noses and cold bond metal plates where the original staircase had corroded away. Then, the entire staircase was coated with Belzona 5231. The second coat was loaded with an anti-slip surefoot aggregate and applied to all walking surfaces. Once Belzona 5231 cured, a topcoat with Belzona 5233 was applied.
