Problem: Internal corrosion of Process Water Stripper column caused lost wall thickness. Customer wanted to avoid unit shutdown for welding which would have meant total plant shutdown and the need to do it next year in major turnaround event, mid of 2020

Application Method

Due to the fact that we have to work on hot surface all the time, surface preparation by flap disc and pneumatic rotary grinding machine were allowed to use to remove all existing silicone base paint and most of inorganic ethyl zinc silicate. After that we used Belzona 1251 to smooth out weld seams and rim of nozzle reinforcement pads. Finally we applied two wraps (four layers) of Belzona 5851 together with Belzona 9371 around the target area Total application area 31 sq.m.

Belzona Facts

We expect customer satisfaction to extend shutdown time until the cut feed day for turnaround activity in mid of 2020. Belzona 5851 and Belzona 9371 were proven better than 3X system which the customer originally wanted to go with because it has calculation data support but it did not pass the test. Customer is more confident to use Belzona as composite repair method in their plant
