Problem: The existing coating had completely failed allowing severe pitting within the housing to occur. The customer was concerned not to allow further loss of wall thickness.

Application Situation
Housing of raw water strainer.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets VPF-1 & 2. The substrate was first prepared using needle guns to remove scale and remaining coating. This exposed more pitting that the customer could not previously see. The substrate was then grit blasted before Belzona® 1311 was used to fill in pitting and smooth out the entire surface. Finally two coats of Belzona® 1321 were applied.
Belzona Facts
Replacement cost was near $20k. The repair was completed for approximately $3k in product. Cost saving was an estimated $17k, not including downtime. The job was completed in one shift.
