Application Situation
6" diameter riser on an offshore platform.
Application Method
The substrate was grit blasted to produce a surface cleanliness of SSPC-SP 10 (Near White Metal) with an anchor profile of at least 3 mils (75 microns). The surface was then cleaned and degreased and the condition of the blasted surface was maintained until the application of the repair system. Belzona 1121 was used to fill pitted areas and to restore the original pipe thickness. Belzona 9381 was saturated with Belzona 1982 and applied onto the pipe in 4 wraps (8 layers) in compliance with the engineered design. To consolidate the repair during the curing process, Belzona 9382 was employed. After 24-hour cure, Belzona 9382 was removed. The surface of the cured Superwrap II was washed and sanded, and the pipe was overcoated with Belzona 1121 prior to application of a urethane top coat.
Belzona Facts
The application was carried out without any disruption to the operation of the platform. The repair and application of Belzona Superwrap II was completed in less than 7 hours, in addition to the 24 hours for the system to cure.
