Problem: This asphalt tank roof was experiencing a few low areas where water would collect for long periods of time after rainfall. Previous installation of the roof structure renovation was struggling and created the concave areas. The pooled water threatened damage to the areas in question.

You can see the pooled water in the dip areas on the tank roof needing to be addressed.

A diamond wheel grinder was used to achieve the appropriate profile on the low areas on the steel. The area was extended beyond the low points to be able to feather the product out and recreate a slope.

Belzona 4911 Conditioner is seen here be applied on top of the prepared steel.

Belzona 4111 was trialed over the prepared areas and is set for future protection.

Application Situation
Our client needed a "bulk" product to fill these dipped areas on the tank roof. These tanks go down every two years and they had a week to be able to address it quickly in order to power back on. The tank did contain asphalt and the temperature would reach about 146 degrees dry heat so we were able to select 4111 for this application. This product covered the dips well and provided a cost effective option for this client.
Application Method
A diamond wheel was used on a handheld grinder to achieve a roughened surface on the steel. We initially discussed sandblasting but this was quicker and surprisingly was a low spark option. Belzona 4111 was the chosen product and small/large trowels were used to smooth it into place.
Belzona Facts
Our customer had received several large quotes for resurfacing the areas with epoxy and they had heard about our product through the refinery next door. They inquired about options and we provided a bulk fill product at a competitive price. It proved to be his best option and one that could be done quick.
