Application Situation
The ammonia pipes operate between - 20°F (-28°C) and +120°F (53°C).
Application Method
The pipe insulation was removed and the pipes were prepared using an MBX Bristle Blaster. No grinding was required which ensured the pipes could stay online during the repair. One layer of Belzona 5871 was applied directly to the surface using a short bristled brush. The product expanded upon application and produced a lightweight, closed-cell foam, insulating the pipe. This application followed a modified VPF-12 procedure.
Belzona Facts
The Belzona solution was selected for the long-term cost savings the solution could offer, along with the vast temperature range it provides insulation for. This self foaming, insulative material was used to provide a protection against the sub-zero temperatures. Reports from the customer are that the solution has been performing well and they were happy with the insulation values it provided to the pipes.
