Problem: The customer had a non-Belzona coating previously applied that failed, causing corrosion scaling on the interior edge of the flange.

Application Situation

Belzona offered time savings and replacement of failed non-belzona coating.

Application Method

Removed corrosion scaling with pneumatic chipping guns and needle scalers. A high pressure grit blaster with 24 grit aluminum oxide was utilized to obtain a SSPC SP-10 level of cleanliness with a minimum surface profile of 3 mils. Keane-Tator Surface Profile Comparator grit was used to verify the surface profile. The area was then soaked with demineralized water and left to sit overnight to allow chlorides to leech out. Then it was brush blasted with 30 grit aluminum oxide back to SSPC SP-10.
