Belzona Provides Anti-Cavitation Resistance to Drive Shaft

Problem: The customer was having issues with the drive shafts on their submarines suffering the effects of cavitation. As a preventative solution, they started to protect all drive shafts with Belzona.
1.) Driveshaft after grit blasting
2.) 2 coats of Belzona 1341 applied
3.) 1st coat of Belzona 2141 being applied
4.) Final application - 2 coats of Belzona 2141
Application Situation

Application Method
This application was carried out in accordance with adapted versions of system leaflets SOS-6 & SOS-2. First, the drive shaft was grit blasted to SA2.5, achieving a 75-micron profile. After surface preparation, any required areas were rebuilt with Belzona 1311 before 2 coats of Belzona 1341 were applied. Finally, Belzona 2941 conditioner was applied before 2 coats of Belzona 2141.

Belzona was selected for its excellent long-term capabilities of resisting the effects of cavitation. The customer is pleased with the Belzona system and now applies the same Belzona materials to other driveshafts within their fleets.
