Problem: Two welded areas on this pipe had experienced internal corrosion from the internals resulting in pin hole leaks. The water softener contained Brine & ran at approximately 10 degrees C.

Application Situation

A water softener with a 150mm bore pipe section coming from it.

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona System Leaflet VPF-11. Belzona 1321 was applied as a two coat system to the internals. Belzona 1161 and Belzona 9341 reinforcement tape were applied to the external as a composite wrap system.

Belzona Facts

Cutting and welding was undesirable due to the environment around the pipe and the safety regulations in place. This traditional method would not have prevented the original issue of corrosion from reoccurring. The Belzona system was installed & cured using external heat to further reduce downtime. This system will prevent the corrosion reoccurring in the future, extending the lifetime of the equipment. The application was inspected in July 2022 & was still in good condition.
