Problem: The bottom of a hydrocarbon storage tank had corroded over time, leading to a continuous leak between the tank and its base.

Hydrocarbon storage tank within a Fossil Fuel Power Station.

Application Method

The multiples leaks were firstly sealed using Belzona 9611. Belzona 1511 was then used to seal between tank bottom and base prior to the plate reinforcement on tank where wall thickness losses are significant. The coatings Belzona 1391T and Belzona 5811 were applied to the concrete based and plates in order protect them against the open air environment. The application was carried out in accordance with a modified version of Belzona System Leaflet TCC-05.

Belzona Facts

Belzona was used due to the tank being within an ATEX area and unable to be emptied - hot work was therefore impossible.
