Problem: One of our offshore clients experienced significant internal deterioration of their 3-phase test separator due to erosion-corrosion. The equipment operates at 121°C and processes sour hydrocarbons, which contributed to the accelerated degradation. This condition severely compromised the integrity and performance of the unit, raising serious concerns about operational reliability and safety. A comprehensive technical assessment was carried out, and appropriate mitigation measures were implemented to prevent further damage and restore the system’s functionality.

The Test separator suffered severe erosion-corrosion, compromising equipment integrity and safety.

Surface preparation was carried out via grit blasting to SA 2.5 standard.

The damaged areas were then treated with a first coat of Belzona 1391T.

A second coat of Belzona 1391T was applied to ensure durable, long-term protection.

Application Situation
The internal corrosion issue has led to operational disruptions, decreased process efficiency, and higher maintenance costs. Timely intervention is critical to improve equipment longevity, reduce unplanned shutdowns, and ensure consistent and reliable operational performance.
Application Method
The application was performed in strict accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets TCC-5, ensuring adherence to industry best practices for corrosion protection and extended equipment lifespan. Surface preparation was carried out via grit blasting to SA 2.5 standard, followed by thorough cleaning using Belzona 9111 (Cleaner Degreaser). The damaged areas were subsequently coated with two layers of Belzona 1391T, providing durable, long-term protection.
