A detailed technical assessment was conducted, followed by refurbishment and the application of corrosion protection systems to restore reliability and ensure optimal functionality.
Critical erosion-corrosion damage in butterfly valves.
Abrasive blasting was carried out to SA 2.5, achieving a 75-micron surface profile.
Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) was used to rebuild the damaged areas.
Two coats of Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal) were applied to provide enhanced protection.
Application Situation
Erosion-corrosion in multiple butterfly valves has led to operational disruptions, reduced efficiency, and increased maintenance costs. Implementing timely refurbishment and corrosion protection is critical to restoring valve integrity, minimizing the risk of unplanned shutdowns, and ensuring consistent, reliable performance.
Application Method
The application was performed in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets VPF-1 and VPF-2, ensuring adherence to industry best practices for corrosion protection and maximizing the equipment’s service life.
Belzona Facts
With spare parts for these valves no longer available, conventional repair methods were not viable, making full replacement the typical option. However, Belzona provided a reliable and cost-effective alternative, eliminating the need for complete valve replacement. Impressed with the performance and quality of the application, the client approved extending the same solution to all 54 valves.
