Problem: Erosion & corrosion had taken its toll on a marine skeg. There was significant metal loss in need of repair before the part could go back into service

Application Situation

A new part had a 16 week lead time, an unacceptable wait for the customer

Application Method

The corroded areas were prepared using grinding tools to get back to bare metal & to roughen the surface. Belzona 1111 was then applied ~2mm proud of the surface. Applicator tools were used to form the inner bearing surface. Once the Belzona 1111 had reached its initially cure stage it was machined back down to the original equipment dimensions.

The Belzona repair was completed in a matter of days. This saved the customer greatly in time & cost when compared to waiting for a whole new skeg to be delivered.
