Blast Enclosure given longer life

KHIA ID: 9477
Industry: General Industry (GIND)
Application: TCC-Tanks and Chemical Containment Areas (TCC)
Substrate: Carbon steel
Customer Location: Peterborough
Application Date: June 2024
Products: Belzona 1321 (Ceramic S-Metal),Belzona 9111 (Cleaner Degreaser)

Problem: The steel wall plates of the blast enclosure were naturally wearing away by the internal blasting process. This would lead to through-wall and escaping blast media and dust. Eventually the line would have to be stopped and the plates replaced, causing downtime and manpower resource requirements. There was also a cost issue with continually buying new parts

Application Situation
The wearing away of the plates were causing the engineers many issues, including a serious Health and Safety risk from flying debris. It was decided to apply two coats of Belzona 1321 Ceramic S metal and have the asset checked at regular intervals. This was with a view to looking out for the base colour showing through the second layer, whereby the engineers on site had agreed to prep up the worn areas and overcoat with more of the second layer, thereby allowing the engineers a visual indicator and a window of opportunity to continually re-treat the most affected areas and save having to take the enclosure apart to rebuild it with new.
Application Method
New steel parts were delivered to Belzona UK in Hawarden
The plates were grit basted to the IFU specs of the Belzona 1321 product
2 coats (of different colours) of Belzona 1321 were applied to the blasted steel in line with the Belzona 1321 IFU
Transport was arranged by Belzona to return the plates to site
Belzona Facts

They are also happy with the visual indicator and continuing supply of Belzona 1321 for them to carry out repairs to the top coat of the Belzona 1321 themselves.
