Problem: The customer was looking for a protection system for the internals of their new-build seawater pipe pieces on their luxury yachts.

Application Situation

The protection had to be able to withstand seawater being pumped through the pipe at high speed. When the seawater is comes through the inlet, sand and shells are taken with them. Sand and shells cause severe abrasion.

Application Method

On completion of adequate surface preparation, Belzona 5821 a ceramic-filled epoxy system was applied. They system was applied by hand in two coats. This solution is cost-effective for large surface areas given the relatively thin target thickness.

Belzona Facts

Belzona 5821 was selected as the solution to provide protection against wear, due to its cost-effectiveness on for larger surfaces. Initially the application was for a few pipe bends, which has since led to additional larger coating applications for at least 24 litres of Belzona 5821 to coat several large straight pipe pieces.
