Problem: Customer had 4 nozzles coming off a tank that experienced corrosion under insulation. The metal on the nozzles were severely pitted and thin. The nozzles were close to hole through if no action was taken to prevent corrosion. The tank contents are are flammable, so hot work would create unwanted downtime.

Abrasive blast completed per SSPC-SP10

Belzona 1511 was applied to smooth welds, pit fill and rebuild lost metal to help with composite wrap.

All four nozzles with composite wrap completed.

Application Situation
To weld repair these nozzles creates a hot work safety concern. Being that the contents are flammable, the customer would have had to drain the tank, clean it and weld repair. This creates a lot of unwanted downtime and is expensive. The Belzona solution gave the customer an API approved repair with out hot work, which made Belzona SuperWrap 2 a great solution.
Application Method
1. Abrasive blast the application area SSPC-SP10
2. Pit fill and smooth welds with Belzona 1511
3. Composite wrap each nozzle with Belzona 1982/9381 SuperWrap 2 for a 2 wrap/4 layer system. The nozzles were spiral wrapped and composite was flared out onto shell of the tank 10" in all directions.
4. Belzona 5111 was applied as a top coat over the repair
