Problem: Damaged platen on the press of this particle board manufacturer was causing culled product. Particle board quality was not meeting standards due to the damage of the platen surface. The surface needs to be flat and smooth and the repair material must be machinable and withstand high temperatures of the steam heated platen. Quality control of this particle board manufacturer is very high and would not allow the defects that the damaged platen produced. All the effort and costs of process up to the point of the press in this manufacturing process was wasted when this platen was used. The wall thickness of the steam platen would deform if arc welding was performed to repair the damage.

Application Situation
Press platen at a particle board manufacturing plant. Damaged Platen on the press of this particle board manufacturer was causing culled product. Particle board quality was not meeting standards due to the damage of the platen surface. The surface needs to be flat and smooth and the repair material must be machinable and withstand high temperatures of the steam heated platen.

The application was carried out in accordance with a modified Belzona Know-How System Leaflet ENC-7 and Belzona Instructions For Use.

The use of a paste grade cold curing product such as Belzona 1111 prevented the scrapping of this expensive piece of equipment. This repair put the platen ready to go back in service, and saved the waste of raw product and man hours of sorting and disposal of particle board.
