Problem: Twenty-four floating hose units in a refinery facility had experienced significant wear and tear on their rubber components in several locations, requiring immediate in-situ repair to maintain buoyancy and ensure proper operation. Without timely maintenance, the damaged rubber surfaces could deteriorate further, potentially disrupting operations and compromising the efficiency and safety of transfer activities within the refinery.

Application Situation
The repair of the floating hoses in question was carried out at the jetty yard. Once the repairs were completed, the hoses were returned to service.
The repair process commenced with the application of hi-build elastomer to rebuild the damaged rubber surface, followed by the application of fluid-grade elastomer as the final coat to strengthen and protect the repaired area.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with the SOS-12 system leaflet.
1. The surface was prepared using an MBX Blister Blaster to roughen the rubber substrate.
2. Belzona 2921 (Elastomer GP Conditioner) was applied following completion of surface preparation.
3. The damaged area was rebuilt using Belzona 2211 (MP Hi-Build Elastomer) reinforced with Belzona 9341 (Reinforcement Tape).
4. Belzona 2221 (MP Fluid Elastomer) was applied as the final coat.
Belzona Facts
Damage to floating hoses can lead to loss of buoyancy and reduced operational performance. Belzona materials were selected as they provide an effective repair solution that restores flexibility, structural integrity, and buoyancy, ensuring the hoses continue to operate reliably.
A total of 24 floating hose units were repaired in May 2025 using Belzona elastomer products. In addition, the flange joint areas were protected using a two-coat system of Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade), providing a durable barrier against seawater exposure.
Due to their proven performance in marine environments, durability, and ease of application, the client selected Belzona elastomer products as the preferred repair solution for floating hoses.
