Problem: Client was completing the annual maintenance on their chillers and noticed damage on the end covers. The asset was previously lined by a competitor to Belzona, and it was failing around the edge. A chunk of the end cover came off which caused concerns. The previous coating was delaminating, metal loss was occurring and made it unsafe to put back into service.

Application Situation

Customer needed a quick turnaround and cost-effective solution to rebuild lost metal and overcoat to provide life to asset before putting back into service. This was an urgent application because the 50-story building needed its chiller back in service to provide AC to tenants in the middle of Texas summer.

Application Method

1. Power tool prep to remove loose adhered coating and roughen up metal (SSPC-SP11)
2. Substrate was wiped clean with Belzona 9111 and let dry.
3. Belzona 1121 was applied to rebuild lost metal.
4. Belzona 1321 applied in a two coat system

Belzona Facts

Customer shipped the head to our shop. We were able to receive the head cover and have the work done within 2 working days. Client picked up the head, had it bolted back onto the chiller, and it is working well per our last discussion. This was a cost-effective, long-lasting solution, and the customer was pleased. It saved money compared to weld repair or head replacement. Also, the quick Belzona solution allowed the customer to get this chiller back in operation quickly.
