Problem: The roof of a process tower in this fertiliser plant was leaking due to the chemicals that were attacking the welds. Infiltration of water was becoming problematic for the production and the roof had to be fixed.

Application Method

The previous repairs were removed and Belzona 1111, 1161, 1212 and 9341 (reinforcement sheet) were used to seal the gaps. Then two coats of Belzona 3121 were applied on top of the repairs to seal in accordance with Belzona KNow-How System Leaflet RPA-1.

Belzona Facts

The other classic sealing methods with silicon or resin did not withstand the conditions. Welding was not allowed on site because of the presence of chemicals, and would still leave the area prone to corrosion. The fact that the whole application could be carried out without any hot work was a great advantage for the customer.
