Belzona created anti-slip protection for internal cement transport area
Industry: Cement (CMNT)
Application: FPA-Floor Problem Areas (FPA)
Substrate: Concrete
Customer Location: Southwestern Croatia
Application Date: May 2026
Products: Belzona 5231 (SG Laminate),Belzona 9221 (Surefoot Aggregate White)
Problem: Forklifts transporting cement pallets between the palletizing hall and the loading and storage platform were slipping on the smooth concrete surface, particularly during turning manoeuvres. Customer wanted a durable solution, which could withstand the load. Roughness should be sufficient to prevent slipping, without damaging tires of forklifts and trucks.

Application Situation
The smooth concrete surface, especially when wet, presented a slip hazard for forklifts carrying cement pallets. Along the route from the palletizer to the loading point and pallet storage area, several sharp turns had to be made, increasing the risk of slipping, collision or overturning. As the facility had to remain operational during the works, the application was carried out in phases of 50 m2 per day, enabling the 300 m2 area to be completed over six days.
Application Method
The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet FPA-8. The concrete substrate was washed with high-pressure water, mechanically prepared using a diamond grinding head to remove dirt, grease and remnants of the previous coating, and then washed again to remove dust. Belzona 5231 was roller-applied at 400 microns and Belzona 9221 (Surefoot Aggregate White) was then incorporated to produce the required anti-slip profile. To minimise the risk of outgassing, the material was applied in the evening.
Belzona Facts
A 50 m2 section of the same platform had previously been treated in 2015 using 10 cm anti-slip stripes (KHIA No. 10275), which remained in service for 11 years. Based on this proven performance, the customer selected Belzona for protection of a significantly larger area. On this occasion, a full-surface coating was recommended in place of anti-slip stripes, simplifying the application and reducing execution time while maintaining economical material consumption.
