Problem: Spills of Caustic soda over many years had caused serious deterioration of the concrete floor and support plinths under the valves.

Application Situation

Badly damaged concrete and support plinths in a Caustic Containment area.

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflets TCC-9 and TCC-15. After removing damaged concrete the area was high pressure water washed and neutralised with dilute hydrochloric acid. When dry, damaged areas of concrete were rebuilt with Belzona 4111 before coating with Belzona 5811 to provide overall protection.

Belzona materials were chosen as they could be applied with the minimum of downtime for the 24/7 operating facility and still provide the required level of strength and chemical resistance required for the bund to provide years of trouble free service.
