Application Situation
They had no replacement and traditional welding was impossible. Down-time was crucial as stopping production for a prolonged time would lead to a big monetary loss. The client needed a solution that was effective, fast, and could be done on-site.
Application Method
Belzona 1121 was offered to rebuild, protect, and seal the perforated pump. Sheet metal was used to seal the holes. The repair was made stronger and longer-lasting by incorporating reinforcing fabric. The repair area was quite big and Belzona 1121 allowed enough working life with the product to finish the whole application, but also presented a very fast solution to the problem, especially as it could be done in situ.
The pump also suffered from severe corrosion as it operates submerged in seawater. Belzona 5811 coating was recommended and applied to protect the external surfaces of the pump from seawater attack, corrosion, and further deterioration.
