Damaged basalt lining within the separator
Preparation for work inside the separator
Situation after 18 months – still OK
Application Situation
A Humboldt-type separator operates in a cement plant 24/7. It is cladded with basalt tiles, which are good and long-term solution, but eventually they get worn by severe abrasive influence of cement particles that are travelling through the separator in a turbulent flow. Customer allows a 5-day window to perform works inside the separator, during the annual turnaround and was looking for a solution that can solve the problem within selected timeframe.
Application Method
Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SHM-7. Surfaces were dedusted with vacuum cleaner, then abraded with grinders and cleaned with acetone. Belzona 1812 was applied to damaged areas of tiles and joints with Belzona application tools.
Belzona Facts
We came to the solution together with the customer, when the problem started to appear. We applied Belzona 1812 on a smaller section initially and customer was satisfied with the result, so now we are doing it every year since 2019. The only considered alternative was partial replacement of basalt tiles, but it is complicated and expensive, because there is no local supplier, it requires specialized works and there is also a time issue mentioned before. It is a good solution for the customer, because it "freezes" the actual situation and prevents further deterioration of basalt cladding. Belzona 1812 performs well and can be easily refurbished once it is worn.
