Problem: A cooling water pipe had several through wall defects. These had come from years of erosion & corrosion. The site depended on this pipe for production.

Application Situation

Limited downtime was available for the repair & there were some restrictions around pipe support plinths. The piping system operated at 20 degrees C & 5 bar.

Application Method

The pipe was prepared using an MBX Bristle Blaster to the SSPC SP-11 surface preparation standard. More defects appeared during this process. All of the defects were plate bonded using pre fabricated Superpatch plates & Belzona 1161 UW Metal. Belzona 1981 was then applied & consolidated to reinforce these areas.

These repairs were completed in one day. Following this the system could return to service after the 24 hour cure period - this greatly helped the plant.
