Problem: A large diameter oil storage tank had a seal around the annular rim. Movement & exposure to the elements had degraded this existing seal to the point where it not longer provided any protection from water ingressing underneath the tank.

Application Situation
The existing seal had failed due to age & UV exposure. Hot works were not permitted in the area due to the tank cargo.
Application Method
The full tank circumference was grit blasted to SA2.5 & 75 microns in a 600mm band from tank wall to concrete base. Two coats of Belzona 6111 were first applied, then Belzona 3921. Following the recommended tank base sealing system bridging tape & foam backer rod were used to extend the bond line over the void between rim & concrete base. Belzona 9311 was then applied with Belzona 3131 to complete the system.

Using this system provides long term protection. The flexibility of the Belzona membrane means it can cope with the movement of the tank as the fluid level inside rises & falls. The ability of the Belzona system to bond seamlessly to metal & concrete is key in this application.
