Problem: The client is experiencing wall thickness loss which has led to a 6-7 cm hole in the 24-inch crude oil pipeline. The excessive erosion and corrosion of the crude oil is causing the leaks. The pipeline is operating at ambient temperature and a pressure of up to 5 bar.

Application Situation

Compliant non metallic structural reinforcement repair on crude line.

Application Method

Surface preparation was completed using power tools. Belzona 1212 along with patch plates were applied to seal the defect area. Once Belzona 1212 fully cured, Belzona Superwrap II application was carried out to consolidate the repair.

Belzona Facts

The conventional clamping system would require more downtime and frequent maintenance or replacement over time. Belzona Superwrap II can be applied to the damaged area with minimal preparation, downtime, and without the need for hot work on site. The client was pleased with the performance of Superwrap II and approved its addition as part of their maintenance procedures.
