Problem: Altrad services coating department were recently approached by EDF Energy to assist with encapsulating approximately 140 flanges to the turbine stator water system. The flanges were being encapsulated due to air being drawn into the system, from the vacuum side of the stator water. These levels were higher than normal, so rather than taking the full system or unit out of service, Belzona 3412 would be used for the task, until the system could be brought out of service for maintenance.

BELZONA 3412 CAN BE APPLIED TO ALL GEOMETRIES AND SEAL THE FLANGE AND FASTENINGS, EASY INSPECTION AND RESEAL.

Application Situation

The cost of Belzona 3412 system is not prohibitive as in this case we have sealed the leaks and added protection to the substrate, inspection is easily done by peeling back the Belzona 3412 and resealing after maintenance.

Application Method

Application surface prep, done with emery cloth making sure all surface were clean and any debris removed, the application as per the IFU was carried out without any problems.
