Problem: The chemical plant needed to prevent mercury from entering the ground through the concrete containment. The situation was aggravated by 50% KOH (potassium hydroxide) that was attacking the concrete and expansion joint sealant.

  1. Bridging over expansion joint in accordance with modified Belzona application procedure TCC-12 with Belzona® 2131.  
  2. First coat of Belzona® 5811 applied with Belzona® 9221 (Surefoot Aggregate White) broadcast for non-skid safety system. Application of second coat Belzona® 5811 (tinted red) in progress.  
  3. The completed application, floor and ground protected from chemical degradation and contamination.

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How Leaflets TCC-12 and TCC-15.

Not only was the floor protected from chemical attack, the customer prevented heavy EPA fines and mercury ground contamination.
