Problem: Pitting corrosion in an internal stainless steel tank, due to unprotected surfaces and hazardous chemicals. Weld particles also a possible explanation to the problems.

Application Situation

Internal coating of deoiler/biocide tank unit on an offhore FPSO

Application Method

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-2. Following gritblasting, Belzona 1311 was used to fill all pitted areas, mostly in the tank bottom. All tank surfaces were then coated in Belzona 1381.

Belzona Facts

As a result of local pitting and possible through wall defects the unit was becoming a safety and an environmental hazard. A solution to repair was required as an alternative to complete removal. Testplates with several Belzona products were tested and kept immersed in the chemical solutions for 2-3 months in order to select the best product, Belzona 1381 was the stand out performer. As a result of the support from Belzona and the performance of the solution, this was the customers first choice for repair.
