Ramps and Landings with Belzona 4151

Problem: This area was a storage facility that 3M turned into a chemical storage facility. There was no curbing in the doorways to protect and spillage from flowing out of the building.

We first cleaned and prepared the concrete using surface grinders.

Next we built the forms to contain the Belzona 4151 with added aggregate to create a smooth edge and proper height.

Then we mixed the aggregate with the Belzona 4151 to the consistency recommended to create a flowable but firm mixture.

To finish, we removed the forms after the recommended cure time and opened the doorway back up to pedestrian traffic.

Application Situation
This was a planned project with 3M and an engineering firm. Concrete wouldn’t give them the result they were looking for such as down time being the number one concern. But also, the adhesion of concrete to concrete would not withstand the traffic in these areas.
Application Method
For the application process we first started off by removing any dirt and debris then we used hand grinders and walk behind grinders with vacuum attachments for minimal dust. When grinding was complete we removed all dust and debris once again then applied Belzona 4911 Conditioner to the surface area for 20 minutes before applying Belzona 4151 with aggregate. We used hand trowels for the finishing touch.
Belzona Facts
I am unaware of the cost savings because no other product was considered for the]is project. The only alternative was using concrete with rebar implanted in to the existing concrete. Once testing was completed both 3M and the engineering firm only wanted to use Belzona.
